Dear GMS Families,
We did it! We all made it through the first full week of school. Each day we learn something new and discover a new way to reach our students whether in school or remotely. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through this new reality of schooling.
Last night was our annual Open House and it was great to see so many people able to attend remotely. The teachers worked very hard to create an experience that was meaningful and informative for families. Thank you for making the time to attend.
On Thursday, we will have our Fall Picture Day. Order forms are being sent home shortly. More guidance will be coming out in regards to our remote learners participating in school pictures. Please be sure to look for more communication regarding this.
Last week we mentioned that we know had an official GMS Twitter page (@GMSLitchfield), but did you know that many of our faculty and staff are also on Twitter. We have compiled a list of those on Twitter and their Twitter handles. All that information can be found HERE. Happy Tweeting!!
To our remote learners. It was great seeing some of you yesterday at our first Remote Learners' Lunch. There was some confusion on the time, and for that I am sorry. The Remote Learners' Lunch will take place every Thursday at 12:00. A link will be sent out each Thursday morning. I hope you can all join us for some games, stories, and of course delicious lunch.
As a district, we are always looking for your feedback. To this end, Dr. Jette has created a weekly survey for parents to fill out to share their opinions of the week's progress. Please take a moment to fill out this survey HERE.

As always Be Well and Be Curious,

Dan Mitchell, Principal
Maura Clinton- Jones, Assistant Principal

News from the PTO

“Hello GMS Families.  Every year, the GMS PTO puts together a Family Directory with contact information for our students to facilitate communication among our GMS families (i.e., play dates, birthday parties, etc...), as well as to provide information about GMS PTO events, activities, and volunteer opportunities.  Due to privacy laws, the school is unable to provide GMS families with the contact information of other students.  This year, with COVID 19 and various learning models, it is more important than ever to have each other's contact information.  Inclusion in this directory is completely voluntary and only those who sign up to be included will receive an electronic copy.  If you wish to be included in the Directory, please fill out this form:  https://tinyurl.com/GMSFamDirectory2020.  We are also gathering information from those who are interested in becoming room parents this year.  If interested, please click on this link for more information and to sign up:  https://tinyurl.com/GMSRoomParent2020

As always, please let us know if you have any questions – Heidi Ames (hames@mooreames.com) and Jenny Eisenbeis (jeisenbeis@gmail.com).  Thank you!”

Repeated News and Announcements
A Message from Mrs. Prevel Turmel
September is National Card Sign Up Month.  This is an especially important time to sign up for a card since the GMS Learning Commons is closed at this time.  Signups can be done by clicking on the link in the flyer.  The Litchfield Public library is closed to the public, but the staff will check out books for you and leave them outside for porch pick up. There are also free electronic books, audio books, movies and music through Hoopla with your Litchfield Public Library card!

Birthday and Other Celebration Treats
With all that is going on, we still like to find ways to celebrate birthdays and other milestones. If you would like to send in treats to celebrate, you may still do so, however we ask that anything sent in be store bought AND factory packaged. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this.

Parent Pick Up

To account for the increase in parent pick ups this year as well as to be able to offer a contact-less pick up process, the following will be the procedures for parent pick up. Parent pick up will occur in four shifts based on the alphabet. It is of utmost importance that you arrive for your assigned pick up time. If it is unavoidable and you arrive early we ask that you wait in the staff parking portion of the lot until your assigned time, colored signs will be used to show which group is currently picking up and where to wait if you are early. When it is your assigned time, please enter the large loop, pull as far forward as possible, and then wait outside your driver’s side door. Each family is being given two labeled, colored pick up slips. If you are having someone other than you picking up your child please provide them one of these slips. Please hold this pick up slip while you wait (think airport valet),or you may place it in your passenger side window. The students will be dismissed by group and will be reunited with their parents. Once all students in a group are safely secured in a vehicle then the entire group will leave. No car will be allowed to move until all students are safely secured.

The group times are as follows:

Last Name       Color             Time

A-D                   Pink               2:45- 2:52

E-L                   Yellow            2:53- 3:00

M-Q                  Blue               3:01- 3:08

R-Z                   Purple            3:09- 3:15

Recess Protocols
Recess is such an important aspect of the elementary school experience. In an attempt to provide recess during this time of awareness and precaution recess will follow certain protocols and procedures. Further, our schoolyard will be divided into four areas that classes will access on a weekly basis. These area assignments will have to be reviewed and reassessed at the time of inevitable snow cover. Please see below for the detailed protocols.
