At GMS, We THRIVE

January 13, 2023
GMS Families,

On  Friday, January 20th we will have our first Coffee with the Principal. This event will be an opportunity to engage with me to ask questions, learn about the school, and enter into dialogue about GMS. While the plan is to make these agendaless events and more about conversations, we may in the future use these to talk about specific pressing issues or needs, but the intent is always to create an open, welcoming, and casual environment for all to come and share in some coffee, conversation, and social interaction. We hope that you are able to make it.

Coming Soon! The Great Kindness Challenge January 23-27

Our school is proudly participating in The Great Kindness Challenge, a week-long program dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion in communities worldwide. Each day will have a different theme with dressing up to show spirit and kindness challenges. Together, we will lift each other up, cheer each other on and show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!

Monday 1/23: Get *NSYNC with Kindness (celebrate kindness and the 90th day of school by wearing 90s style)

Tuesday 1/24: Peace, Love, and Kindness (wear tye-dye)

Wednesday 1/25: Krazy for Kindness (wear wacky clothes)

Thursday 1/26: Team Up for Kindness (wear a sports jersey, t-shirt or uniform)

Friday 1/27: Dream of a Kind World (wear pajamas)

Be Well, Be Curious, and THRIVE,

Maura Clinton-Jones, Assistant Principal

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

If you are willing and able, the library is in need of volunteers to complete tasks such as checking in and out books as well as shelving them.  Please email Melina Prevel-Turmel if you are interested with your days and time frames of availability.  Thank you!  mprevelturmel@litchfielsd.org

THE BOOK FAIR WAS A SUCCESS!

Thank you for your support with the book fair, which is a fundraiser for the library.   1672 items were sold, and 4,377.10 in Scholastic Dollars was raised!  That money is used for various purchases including BookFlix, which is a fun way to keep your children reading and interested in books.

Message from the Nurse's Office:

There is a new daily health screening that has been put out by the District Office and we have posted it on our website.

Lately students are coming to school without water bottles and snacks more frequently. If you could help your child come with those items everyday, it would be greatly appreciated!

Also, if anyone would like to donate snack items or bottled water, we could use them to replenish our supply.

Thank you!

Ms. V

News from the SAU/ Superintendent

With winter weather around the corner, a message has gone out reminding parents and staff of the procedures we will follow to delay or cancel school due to inclement weather.  Our goal is to make a decision based upon current safety conditions the morning of the event no later than 5:00 AM.  The school district will provide 6 methods of notification of school cancellation or delay:  Facebook, email, text, website, and WMUR followed by a final phone message.  We will not be contacting any other media outlets, so please be sure to monitor these 6 methods.

End 68 Hours of Hunger and the Litchfield School District 2022-2023

The End 68 Hours of Hunger Program and Litchfield Schools are pleased to inform you about a free, confidential food program which provides students with meals from Friday after school until they return to school on Monday morning.  If meeting the weekend nutritional needs of your child is challenging at this time, we would like to help meet that need.  All food is non-perishable and easy to prepare.  If your child has any food allergies, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate this need.  Nut products are included for those who are not allergic, but children are informed that they are not to open the bags until a parent can review the contents.

Each week, bags containing food will be provided to students at school.  Students will bring the bag home on the bus or by whatever mode of transportation they have at the end of the day.  If you prefer, parents may pick up the bag at school. Please contact your GMS School Social Worker Jada Tessier for further information jtessier@litchfieldsd.org.
