GMS Families, We hope you all had an enjoyable and restful Thanksgiving Break. Our Book Fair has added a sense of excitement to this week back and it has been great to see the enjoyment that these purchases have brought. It was nice to see so many families take advantage of our Family Shopping Event last evening. This event is not only a great community event but helps to fund some amazing opportunities and resources for our Learning Commons. Thank you to everyone that has had a hand in this from our planning committee to our shoppers and especially to Mrs. Prevel-Turmel. This week certainly reminded us of what Winter feels like here in NH. As you prepare your child in the morning we ask that you please remember a few things. If the temperature feels like 20 or above they will go outside for recess. 20 is still cold so please make sure they have everything they need to have a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable time while outside. Also, once snow has taken over the grass areas, students must have sufficient snow gear (hats, jacket, gloves, pants, and boots) to be allowed on the snow. If they are without this gear they will have recess on the blacktop, while this can still be fun, it is nothing like playing in the snow. Thank you for your assistance in making sure recess is safe and enjoyable. We have many events coming up not only at GMS but within our community. On Thursday evening, under the direction of Mrs. Wade (Ms. Magoon) our GMS Chorus will put us in the Holiday spirit as they present their Holiday performance at CHS at 6:30. We hope you can join us for this wonderful tradition. Next week, our PTO will also be holding their Holiday Store. This gives the students an opportunity to do a little shopping for those in their lives. There is nothing more adorable than the blending of elementary aged students and the idea of commerce. Finally, save the date of February 6 as we will be holding our 1st Annual Winterfest. More information will be coming, but this is guaranteed to be a great evening of crafts, community, food, and fun.... oh and did I mention a Bonfire!

Absence Reporting At Litchfield School District, one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely at school each and every day. To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure, we now use a more efficient student absence reporting system called SafeArrival. This system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, make it easy for you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unexplained student absences. With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using any of these 3 convenient methods: Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store (or from the links at https://go.schoolmessenger.com). The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence. Use the SafeArrival website, https://go.schoolmessenger.com. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence. Call the toll-free number 1-833-516-0370 to report an absence using the automated phone system.
These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time. In addition, we will use the SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents whose child is absent when the absence was not reported in advance. The automated notification system will attempt to contact parents at multiple contact points until a reason is submitted for the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, office staff will follow up. If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or mobile app, you will NOT receive these notifications. For those of you who do not know much about Girl Scouts, a Daisy is the youngest branch of Girl Scouts. We work with the girls to help them build social skills, learn to be friends and good neighbors, as well as to discover the world around them partly by giving back to our community. Daisy scouts earn Petals and badges while exploring together, finding new skills, giving back to our town, and having adventures. We are hoping that you can help our troop by being a part of our adventure and making a donation. This donation will help meet our troops goal of 10 boxes donated, providing items needed directly to our town, and help our Troop earn a petal!
