Dear GMS Families, Welcome to the part of the year I like to refer to as"the blur". It is that time frame between Trick or Treating and the Holidays that just goes by so quickly and it is hard to keep track of the days. Through in a Voting Day this week and a holiday next week and it can get super blurry. We will do our best to keep you apprised of all upcoming events and things to remember, so that we can all survive 'the blur" together. This week also presented us with a range of temperatures. This week alone we saw winter coats, hats, and mittens but ended it with shorts and short sleeves. It is the constant reminder to please make sure your child is dressed and prepared for whatever Mother Nature may throw our way. Today also marks the end of the first quarter. More information about report cards can be found below.

GMS NewsFirst Quarter Report Cards (Clarified) After much thought and careful consideration we have decided that we will not be issuing first quarter grades this year. With the delayed opening to school and variable nature of this year so far, we fear that a report card with grades would not be a complete representation of your child's progress. Furthermore, we believe that the parent teacher conference will be a much greater indicator of your child's progress and therefore will be documenting the highlights of those conversations to act as a Report Card for your child. This documentation will be sent home as a narrative style Report Card for first quarter. Our goal is to always provide parents with the best and most useful information to inform you of your child's progress and believe, this year, that this will serve most effectively. Absence Reporting Email The GMS office now has a dedicated email address to use to report your child tardy or absent: GMSabsences@litchfieldsd.org. You can also find it on the Griffin Memorial School homepage, on the top, left side under “ABSENCES”. When you send an email please include the following information: *Child’s first and last name *Teacher *Reason for absence If you would prefer to leave a voicemail message when your child is absent or tardy you are still welcome to call 424-5931 and then hit “6” when you hear the automated message. Please remember to include the above information in the voice message. Please note that when you email or leave a voice message saying that your child “will be out” then the absence is recorded as unexcused. Please tell us the reason for the absence so it is documented correctly. Book Fair The Scholastic virtual book fair fundraiser started Nov. 2nd and is happening through Nov. 15th! A paper parent letter with a flyer was sent home.. BOOK FAIR FLYER

End 68 Hours of Hunger Litchfield Schools are pleased to inform you about a free, confidential food program which provides students with meals from Friday after school until they return on Monday morning. The program is sponsored by “End 68 Hours of Hunger,” a local, private food program whose mission is to help families feed their children over the weekends. If meeting the weekend nutritional needs of your child is challenging at this time, we would like to help meet that need. All food is non-perishable as well as easy to prepare and we do our best to accommodate food allergies when necessary. Guaranteeing your child’s confidential participation in the program is also a top priority.
