Dear GMS Families,

As Dr. Jette has now communicated, we plan on returning to in person learning this Monday. As we prepare, we are taking steps to create and maintain a safe learning space for all present here. As we developed these plans we used two guiding principles: "Create the safest space possible" And "This is still an elementary school and should feel like one." With those two principles in mind we will be increasing mask wearing to include all times except eating, close contact will be limited, and distancing will be maintained even during unstructured times, when indoors. However, we know that Holiday parties are a big part of the elementary experience so we will still hold classroom parties, though they may look a bit different as distancing will still be maintained. Your child's teacher will most likely reach out with more details. Please remember that all treats sent in must be store bought AND factory packaged. We are confident that together we can create a safe and welcoming school.

Due to the potential fluidity of next week and with no decision yet made on the return after Holiday Break, we will NOT be collecting Chromebooks at this time. If you have borrowed a Chromebook from the school please keep it and keep it safe. Once we determine that we will be back for an extended stretch we will then send out instructions for returning these devices. We appreciate your care in maintaining the quality of these devices.

As winter weather is now upon us, it means that the ground is frozen and therefore very hard. Due to this, we are unable to use the swings and structure on our playground. However, because we uses zones at recess to establish distancing, this means classes will still be able to run around in this area. Further as snow begins to cover most of the recess zones, it is vitally important that students come dressed appropriately for their areas. If they are on the playground or either field they must have snow gear including boots. We need the students to stay in their zones to maintain our cohorts. The blacktop zone is the only one that does not require snow gear, but we would prefer to not fill that space with the class assigned and every child who is not dressed appropriately. Your cooperation and understanding in this matter is greatly appreciated.

This is truly an unprecedented time in education and the world. We continue to be amazed, appreciative, and inspired by the response of the students, staff, and all of you. This is not easy for anyone, but you all have done your part to make it just a bit easier, and at this moment, even the tiniest of gestures and actions go a very long way. Thank You!!!!

Be Well and Be Curious,

Dan Mitchell, Principal

Maura Clinton- Jones, Assistant Principal

We ask all students to please go on and accept the invitation for the Music Google Classroom. All students must do this regardless if you have had music already, are currently having music, or haven't yet had your music block. Once all students are enrolled in the Classroom, we will then be able to synchronize with the publishers online platform. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

End 68 Hours of Hunger

Litchfield Schools are pleased to inform you about a free, confidential food program which provides students with meals from Friday after school until they return on Monday morning. The program is sponsored by “End 68 Hours of Hunger,” a local, private food program whose mission is to help families feed their children over the weekends. If meeting the weekend nutritional needs of your child is challenging at this time, we would like to help meet that need. All food is non-perishable as well as easy to prepare and we do our best to accommodate food allergies when necessary. Guaranteeing your child’s confidential participation in the program is also a top priority. For additional information or to sign up, please contact Jennifer Hayes, GMS School Counselor, at 424-5931 x1106 or jhayes@litchfieldsd.org.
