Griffin Memorial School News

Dear GMS Families,
Welcome Back and Happy New Year. We hope that the vacation allowed you all to rest, relax, enjoy some time down, and recharge for the new year ahead of us. Each new year allows us a chance for a fresh start and hope and optimism for what it to come. I have never felt or needed this hope more so than this year. Together, as a community, I look forward to what will be accomplished in 2021.
One thing we look forward to into 2021 is celebrations. As a staff, this year we have been recognizing "All-Stars" among us. Staff are able to recognize those that go above and beyond, or even just do the ordinary things extraordinarily well. I would like to extend this offer out to the community as well. If you know of someone in our school community (staff, student, parent, friend) who you think is deserving of "All-Star" status, please let us know. They will be added to our "Wall of All-Stars"  (A community shared Google Doc) for all to see. I think we need more celebrations, and we can think of no better place to start than right here...
At the beginning of the year, we asked everyone to make a commitment for a time period to either remote or in person learning. As the year drew on, some chose to make changes. At this time we are asking for another commitment. However, we recognize the current situation and the enormity of such a decision. So we are asking for a commitment for the time period from January 27th to February Vacation. We will ask again the week prior to vacation. We know that there are many variables and emotions that go into a decision like this, so we hope this shorter time frame helps ease this a bit. Further, we are asking that you only complete the survey if you intend to make A CHANGE to your current selection. So if you are an in person learner and would like to switch to remote for the time period mentioned or vice versa, please complete THIS SURVEY by 9:00 on Tuesday 1/12/21. Your honest intentions are vital to our proper and safe planning towards the operation of the building and are greatly appreciated.
As always please let me know if you have any questions or confusion prior to to completing this.
Be Well and Be Curious and Here's to a Fabulous 2021,

Please help your children to be able to take advantage of these book borrowing opportunities.  They could find the SORA app in their Google apps as well and will need to log on using their Litchfield School District Google account.  If you have any questions, please let me know by contacting me at mprevelturmel@litchfieldsd.org.

Enjoy!

When you send an email please include the following information:

If you would prefer to leave a voicemail message when your child is absent or tardy you are still welcome to call 424-5931 and then hit “6” when you hear the automated message. Please remember to include the above information in the voice message.

Please note that when you email or leave a voice message saying that your child “will be out” then the absence is recorded as unexcused. Please tell us the reason for the absence so it is documented correctly.

Music Google Classroom

We ask all students to please go on and accept the invitation for the Music Google Classroom. All students must do this regardless if you have had music already, are currently having music, or haven't yet had your music block. Once all students are enrolled in the Classroom, we will then be able to synchronize with the publishers online platform. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

End 68 Hours of Hunger

Litchfield Schools are pleased to inform you about a free, confidential food program which provides students with meals from Friday after school until they return on Monday morning. The program is sponsored by “End 68 Hours of Hunger,” a local, private food program whose mission is to help families feed their children over the weekends. If meeting the weekend nutritional needs of your child is challenging at this time, we would like to help meet that need. All food is non-perishable as well as easy to prepare and we do our best to accommodate food allergies when necessary. Guaranteeing your child’s confidential participation in the program is also a top priority. For additional information or to sign up, please contact Jennifer Hayes, GMS School Counselor, at 424-5931 x1106 or jhayes@litchfieldsd.org.
