Griffin Memorial School News

Dear GMS Families,
The shows and signs of appreciation this week made for an amazing week back from vacation. Thank you to the PTO and every student and parent who went out of their way to make us all feel your thanks. It was a remarkable tribute to the hard work and dedication that our entire staff of educators does. The dedication shown by our classroom teachers, specialists, related service providers, special education teachers, administration, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, tutors, lunch and recess monitors, office staff, nurse, school counselor, school psychologist, lunchroom staff, and custodial staff combine to make GMS a truly special place. Thank you, thank you , thank you!!!!!
Next week our third and fourth graders will begin taking the NH SAS assessments. We are confident that they are ready to show us all how remarkable they are. I told them that they have accomplished more this year than in the history of third and fourth graders, so we know they will be fine. If you have or know a third or fourth grader be sure to show them some sign of encouragement. We know they will make us proud and show the state how awesome Litchfield is!
As you may have seen at this week's board meeting or reported in the news, we, like many other districts are struggling to fill all of our staffing vacancies. A current list of our open positions can be found HERE. If you know of anyone looking please let us know. It can be a college student returning, someone looking for some hours, or someone looking to change careers, we will consider them all. Additionally, we are also looking to staff our summer programs, so again if you know anyone please have them reach out to Mrs. Mitchell or Mrs. Clinton-Jones.
Finally, we wish every mother who is a part of our GMS family a truly wonderful, restful, and beautiful Mother's Day this Sunday. Thank you for all that you do and enjoy your day.

Be Well, Be Safe, and Be Curious,

Dan Mitchell, Principal
Maura Clinton- Jones, Assistant Principal

Weekly COVID Numbers

Currently we have 1 positive case associated with the school community. We continue to monitor the situation and will communicate out when necessary.

American Red Cross Blood Drive

Griffin Memorial School along with the GMS PTO is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive through the Pint-Size Hero program. This program will introduce students to the importance of blood donation and will provide lifesaving blood products for hospital patients. Our students will have the opportunity to show leadership and help save lives by recruiting blood donors for our upcoming blood drive. Each student who recruits an adult to donate will be recognized as a Pint-Size Hero with a fun gift from the Red Cross.

You can support this program by donating blood, recruiting other donors or volunteering at the blood drive. Please schedule your blood donation appointment at redcrossblood.org using sponsor code LitchfieldNH, by downloading the Blood Donor App

News from the SAU/ Superintendent

Enrollments for next year - We are reminding anyone who is planning to attend school in Litchfield next year to PLEASE enroll now.  We are carefully watching several class sizes, and having accurate student numbers is extremely important to us.  This includes any student planning to return from private or home education during the pandemic.  Likewise, if anyone is planning to move or attend a different school next year, that would be important information for us to have as soon as possible.  Please share with any new neighbors or other residents in town so we can get accurate information on any new students.

Open Positions - We need your help!  Are you interested in working in a School District setting?  Do you know someone coming home from college and looking for summer work?  Are you looking to have school vacations and summers off?   We have the job for you!  Great District ~ Great Staff~ Come Join our Team!  If you are interested in working for the Litchfield School District please visit our web-site to look at open positions and fill out our online application.

Repeated News and Announcements

From Mrs. Prevel-Turmel and the Learning Commons

GMS has a new book subscription through Scholastic called BookFlix.  There are many fiction books paired up with nonfiction books along with activities and further information links.  Many of the books are read aloud, which is helpful to our younger students.  I hope that this resource helps foster the love of reading and learning!

You can access it with the following link:

The username is gms1 and the password is flix.

A Note from Mrs. Seabrook

I am aware that many students have seasonal allergies and our pollen counts are beginning to rise. If your child has seasonal allergies, it should be documented by their medical provider. Unfortunately many seasonal allergy symptoms are also symptoms of COVID 19. Your child will need a COVID test to return to school unless their allergies are documented by their provider.

I am asking parents to be proactive and obtain a note from their child's provider stating that they have seasonal allergies to hopefully prevent a COVID test in the future.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me @ 424-5931 ext 1108 or email me @ sseabrook@litchfieldsd.org.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Absence Reporting Email

The GMS office now has a dedicated email address to use to report your child tardy or absent:  GMSabsences@litchfieldsd.org. You can also find it on the Griffin Memorial School homepage, on the top, left side under “ABSENCES”.

When you send an email please include the following information:

                *Child’s first and last name

                *Teacher

                *Reason for absence

If you would prefer to leave a voicemail message when your child is absent or tardy you are still welcome to call 424-5931 and then hit “6” when you hear the automated message. Please remember to include the above information in the voice message.

Please note that when you email or leave a voice message saying that your child “will be out” then the absence is recorded as unexcused. Please tell us the reason for the absence so it is documented correctly.

Don't forget to join the GMS SEL classroom with Mrs. Hayes and Ms. Poli.  Click the link  to join  https://classroom.google.com/c/MTQyODg4MjYzNDIy?cjc=333dr33
