Dear GMS Families, The end of the year is definitely in full swing. Preparations are underway for a fourth grade celebration, Field Day, and many other end of the year activities. The planning and the warmer weather has brought a new, much needed energy to the building. This week our third and fourth grade students began their NHSAS assessments. We are so proud at how well they have been doing and how hard they have been working. We are certain that they will show us how outstanding they are. In the coming weeks, other grades will begin end of the year assessments. these assessments are so vital in showing us what our amazing students have accomplished. This past Wednesday was School Nurse Appreciation Day. I do not know where we would be or how we would have made it through this year without the tireless work of Mrs. Seabrook. She has certainly guided us through this tumultuous year and we couldn't have done it without her. One day doesn't seem enough to truly show our appreciation.
Be Well, Be Safe, and Be Curious,
Dan Mitchell, Principal Maura Clinton- Jones, Assistant Principal

GMS NewsWeekly COVID Numbers Currently we have 1 positive case associated with the school community. We continue to monitor the situation and will communicate out when necessary. Upcoming Virtual Book Fair GMS is having another virtual book fair this year starting Monday, May 17th and running through Sunday, May 30th. This library fundraiser is hoping to encourage summer reading. Please see the attachments for the letter and flyer that were sent home. There is a link to more information and the online store in the letter. Parent Letter Book Fair Flyer American Red Cross Blood Drive On May 27th we’re partnering with the Red Cross to hold what we expect to be the first of many blood drives. The Red Cross has -140 years of experience providing humanitarian aid including 80 years of supplying blood to those in need. Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. We are very excited about the drive. Each student who recruits a donor will receive an American Red Cross LCD Writing Pad (see linked Parent Letter with photo of gift). In addition, thanks to the LMS PTO we have a giveaway for the GMS student who recruits the most blood donors! It’s a gift certificate to Breakout Games, where groups can Quest (in-person or virtual) with their own team of up to 8 players. There are many ways you can help, but most importantly we hope you come out to donate. Please schedule your blood donation appointment at redcrossblood.org using sponsor code LitchfieldNH, or by downloading the Blood Donor App. It’s not every day that we do something that has such a lifesaving impact. Thank you
News from the SAU/ Superintendent Enrollments for next year - We are reminding anyone who is planning to attend school in Litchfield next year to PLEASE enroll now. We are carefully watching several class sizes, and having accurate student numbers is extremely important to us. This includes any student planning to return from private or home education during the pandemic. Likewise, if anyone is planning to move or attend a different school next year, that would be important information for us to have as soon as possible. Please share with any new neighbors or other residents in town so we can get accurate information on any new students. Open Positions - We need your help! Repeated News and Announcements From Mrs. Prevel-Turmel and the Learning Commons GMS has a new book subscription through Scholastic called BookFlix. There are many fiction books paired up with nonfiction books along with activities and further information links. Many of the books are read aloud, which is helpful to our younger students. I hope that this resource helps foster the love of reading and learning! You can access it with the following link: https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600072475 The username is gms1 and the password is flix. A Note from Mrs. Seabrook I am aware that many students have seasonal allergies and our pollen counts are beginning to rise. If your child has seasonal allergies, it should be documented by their medical provider. Unfortunately many seasonal allergy symptoms are also symptoms of COVID 19. Your child will need a COVID test to return to school unless their allergies are documented by their provider. I am asking parents to be proactive and obtain a note from their child's provider stating that they have seasonal allergies to hopefully prevent a COVID test in the future. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me @ 424-5931 ext 1108 or email me @ sseabrook@litchfieldsd.org. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Absence Reporting Email The GMS office now has a dedicated email address to use to report your child tardy or absent: GMSabsences@litchfieldsd.org. You can also find it on the Griffin Memorial School homepage, on the top, left side under “ABSENCES”. When you send an email please include the following information: *Child’s first and last name *Teacher *Reason for absence If you would prefer to leave a voicemail message when your child is absent or tardy you are still welcome to call 424-5931 and then hit “6” when you hear the automated message. Please remember to include the above information in the voice message. Please note that when you email or leave a voice message saying that your child “will be out” then the absence is recorded as unexcused. Please tell us the reason for the absence so it is documented correctly. Don't forget to join the GMS SEL classroom with Mrs. Hayes and Ms. Poli.
