Dear GMS Families, We have received some questions about the end of the school year and events. These have been listed in the upcoming dates for a few weeks, but we think it is important to give them a little time up here in the prime spot of the top of the blog. First off, the last day of school is June 17th and will be an early release (exact times forthcoming). Wednesday June 16th will be our Field Day and will NOT be early release, so our last Early Release Wednesday will be June 9. Finally, plans are coming together for the fourth grade celebration on June 15th. More details will be coming, but for planning purposes parents will be invited to play a role in this celebration on the morning of the 15th. We know this information is important when making plans about your work. Again more specifics will be coming shortly. Recently, a change has been made to the district's mask policy. This impacts us at GMS specifically at recess and outdoor PE time. Please read below in the Superintendent's section for more specific information. If you wish for your child not to wear a mask at recess, we ask that you send a bag in for them to place it in during recess, we do not have all the fanny packs that we had back in the Fall. The sun is shining, the days are longer, and the weather is gorgeous. We hope you have some time to get out and enjoy it this weekend. Be Well, Be Safe, and Be Curious,
Dan Mitchell, Principal Maura Clinton- Jones, Assistant Principal

GMS NewsWeekly COVID Numbers I am glad to report that for the first time in a long time we have 0 positive case associated with the school community. We continue to monitor the situation and will communicate out when necessary. Virtual Book Fair The GMS virtual Book Fair began Monday, May 17th and running through Sunday, May 30th. This library fundraiser is hoping to encourage summer reading. Please see the attachments for the letter and flyer that were sent home. There is a link to more information and the online store in the letter. Parent Letter Book Fair Flyer American Red Cross Blood Drive On May 27th we’re partnering with the Red Cross to hold what we expect to be the first of many blood drives. The Red Cross has -140 years of experience providing humanitarian aid including 80 years of supplying blood to those in need. Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. We are very excited about the drive. Each student who recruits a donor will receive an American Red Cross LCD Writing Pad (see linked Parent Letter with photo of gift). In addition, thanks to the LMS PTO we have a giveaway for the GMS student who recruits the most blood donors! It’s a gift certificate to Breakout Games, where groups can Quest (in-person or virtual) with their own team of up to 8 players. There are many ways you can help, but most importantly we hope you come out to donate. Please schedule your blood donation appointment at redcrossblood.org using sponsor code LitchfieldNH, or by downloading the Blood Donor App. It’s not every day that we do something that has such a lifesaving impact. Thank you
News from the SAU/ Superintendent Masks ~ Indoors and Outdoors Indoors ~ We will continue to require students and staff to wear masks while in our school facilities. Outdoors ~ Whether at recess, PE class or outside classes or activities, we are recommending that students continue to wear masks. However, this is now a matter of personal responsibility and there will be no enforcement of masks when students are outdoors and physically distant. Athletics ~ We will continue to follow NHIAA expectations. “Actively Participating” athletes at CHS and LMS will be allowed to lower their mask during practice or competition as long as both teams agree this is acceptable practice. Athletes or coaches on the sidelines must continue to mask unless 6 feet of social distancing can be maintained outdoors

Repeated News and Announcements Absence Reporting Email The GMS office now has a dedicated email address to use to report your child tardy or absent: GMSabsences@litchfieldsd.org. You can also find it on the Griffin Memorial School homepage, on the top, left side under “ABSENCES”. When you send an email please include the following information: *Child’s first and last name *Teacher *Reason for absence If you would prefer to leave a voicemail message when your child is absent or tardy you are still welcome to call 424-5931 and then hit “6” when you hear the automated message. Please remember to include the above information in the voice message.
