Dear GMS Families,
We have made it to the long weekend. We hope that you are able to enjoy this time with family. The students can certainly sense the end of the year coming and are working with a sense of urgency. We are committed to making these final 12 and a half days memorable, productive, and celebratory. Everyone has worked so hard this year let this final stretch be a culmination of all the amazing thigs we have done together.
We go into this long weekend with the recognition of all those who have gone before us in the fight and defense of the freedoms we enjoy. Please let this weekend be one of rest and enjoyment, but also respect and reflection.
         We'll see you in June!!!
Be Well, Be Safe, and Be Curious,

Dan Mitchell, Principal
Maura Clinton- Jones, Assistant Principal

Weekly COVID Numbers

I am glad to report that we have 0 positive case associated with the school community. We continue to monitor the situation and will communicate out when necessary.

Relay Recess

Our school is participating in our 9th annual Relay Recess health awareness and fundraising event on June 14th! We are helping to raise money to support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to provide resources to cancer patients and help find a cure. Your child should have received a fundraising packet with information about how to sign up to fundraise online and about our Relay Recess event. This information is also on the GMS website. Please turn in all envelopes, suns/moons, and luminary bags by June 10th to your child’s teacher. There will be prizes for highest fundraisers at each grade level and drawings for participants. Thank you for all of your support as we work together to teach your children how to be responsible citizens and play an active role in their community!

Please email Mrs. Quimby at squimby@litchfieldsd.org if you have any questions about the GMS Relay Recess.

Blood Drive Follow Up

Thank you to GMS, LMS, and CHS students, staff parents/guardians, and admin for your involvement in the blood drive yesterday. In all 45 pints of blood were collected impacting the lives of 135 hospital patients. Your efforts show your generosity, selflessness and dedication to helping others.

Special thanks to:

  • All the GMS & LMS students who recruited adults to give blood. We’re putting together the referral lists and will make sure you get your safety flashing keychain or LED tablet before school ends.

  • Mrs. Rooney who took the lead at LMS educating students about blood components and why it’s important to give.

  • Mrs. Sid and the LMS Student Council who made posters to promote the drive.

  • Parent, teacher and student volunteers including Emily and Izzy from CHS

  • The GMS and LMS PTOs for helping to get the word out and for volunteer support.

  • All the first-time donors who broke through the barrier to try something new to help others.

  • Everyone who agreed to have their picture taken by my husband!

All are invited to sign up for the next blood drive at the same place (Open Doors) Thursday, July 29th from 1-6pm. www.redcrossblood.org

If any students would be interested hosting a blood drive for a Sophomore/Senior project, Honor Society volunteer hours etc., please feel free to contact tarahershberger@gmail.com and I would be honored to be your mentor and provide support. There are high school programs where you can earn gift cards or potentially a college scholarship for hosting

News from the SAU/ Superintendent

Vaccination Cards - While we are not requiring students or staff to be vaccinated, we are able and very willing to track vaccination status.  This could be helpful to individual students in the future if contact tracing is required or if a vaccination record is lost.  Any student is welcome to send a copy of the vaccination record to the school nurse.  We will maintain a copy of the vaccination record in our medical files.

Absence Reporting Email

The GMS office now has a dedicated email address to use to report your child tardy or absent:  GMSabsences@litchfieldsd.org. You can also find it on the Griffin Memorial School homepage, on the top, left side under “ABSENCES”.

When you send an email please include the following information:

If you would prefer to leave a voicemail message when your child is absent or tardy you are still welcome to call 424-5931 and then hit “6” when you hear the automated message. Please remember to include the above information in the voice message.

Please note that when you email or leave a voice message saying that your child “will be out” then the absence is recorded as unexcused. Please tell us the reason for the absence so it is documented correctly.
