Griffin Memorial School News
February 11, 2022
GMS Families,

This week's weather was a far cry from where we were last Friday. It was nice to be able to get the students outside and take advantage of this bit of winter warmth for the time being. We have been seeing the Valentine cards and decorations come in slowly throughout the week and we know we are ready to have a day of celebration on Monday. The energy that days like this bring are always great to feel and experience.

This past week was National School Counseling week, and we definitely have the best. Mrs. Hayes does so much to provide for our students. Here calming presence sets the tone for the entire school. We are so grateful and lucky to have her as a member of the GMS Family!

Just a reminder that report cards are available for viewing. Here are directions to help get you access them:

News From Food Services

Food Services has experienced its worst week to date of product shortages.  Most, if not all, of these items are breakfast items.  Please know our priority is providing a complete and healthy breakfast to all students.  However, "menu subject to change" and we will do our best to replace menu items exactly, but it may differ.  We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Also, we have 3 open positions (one at each school) and openings for Food Substitutes.  If you know someone looking for a job, please have them apply!  https://sau27.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx

News from the SAU/ Superintendent

We are pleased to announce that our COVID protocols have been updated on our website to “Re-opening Plan ~ Version 4.0”.  A summary of key updates follows:

  • We have updated our new Quarantine and Isolation Matrix from 5 columns to 4 columns.  We hope this is easier for families to follow.

    • This change includes clarifying that a person who tested positive for COVID-19 is considered “Up to Date” on vaccines for the specific 90-day period of time following the positive test.  See the definition at the bottom of the grid.

    • We are also now accepting “Home Tests” as evidence of whether or not a person has COVID-19.  Information and criteria for accepting home tests can be found HERE.

    • We have updated our Masking Decision Metric from a 3 tier system (Choice/ Targeted/ Required) to a 2 tier system (Choice/ Targeted).  Please note that consistent with CDC Guidelines, we continue to highly recommend that persons wear a well fitting mask indoors, including at school.

      • The updated definition of “Targeted” includes the required 10 days of masking for unvaccinated household contact, symptoms or testing COVID positive.

      • We have also added a section that clarifies expectations of Guests, Visitors and Volunteers.  This includes lifting the requirement that volunteers must be vaccinated.

As always, our school nurses serve the critical role of communicating with families and keeping the school community safe.  We are grateful for their efforts throughout the pandemic.  Please continue to keep them informed of any COVID-19 concerns or challenges.

Repeated News/ Long Term Info to Know

End 68 Hours of Hunger

End 68 Hours of Hunger and Litchfield Schools are pleased to inform you about a free, confidential food program which provides students with meals from Friday after school until they return to school on Monday morning.  If meeting the weekend nutritional needs of your child is challenging at this time, we would like to help meet that need.  All food is non-perishable and easy to prepare.  If your child has any food allergies, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate this need.  Nut products are included for those who are not allergic, but children are informed that they are not to open the bags until a parent can review the contents.  The bags are delivered to schools and students will take the bags home with them on the bus or at parent pick-up.  If you would like to pick up the bags yourself, arrangements can be made for pick up at the front office.

If you are interested in joining the program or learning more, please contact Elin Pelland, School Social Worker, at 424-2133 x 2215 or at epelland@litchfieldsd.org.
