GMS Families,

As you are aware, with the newest district guidelines, we are now allowing home tests for a return to school. Please note that two tests, taken more than 24 hours from each other, are required and we are asking you to submit photos of these test results with certain specifics:
  • First and last name of student

  • Date & Time of test (include in the photos a device that validates date and time)

  • The test strip or cartridge of the result (in good lighting)

  • Box of test used showing the expiration date

Click HERE for a helpful template to include as background for the required photos.

Once again we find ourselves in need of water bottles for the Health Office. If you are able and willing we would appreciate any donation of individual bottled water.

Next week is our last week before a well earned vacation. Though Monday is a National Holiday, we still will be in session. We are excited to see all that we will accomplish in this last week before break.

Be Well, Be Curious,

Dan Mitchell, Principal
Maura Clinton-Jones, Assistant Principal

SOUP & SUPPLIES for our SUPERHEROS!!

Not all superheroes wear capes ... we have a special crew of superheroes at GMS! We want to treat our teachers and staff to something special right before February Break, and we know our PTO families are the perfect group to make this happen! We are seeking volunteers to contribute soup, chowder, chili, etc and/or supplies. Volunteers making a soup can drop off their crockpot, serving utensil, and ingredient list on February 25, 2022 between 9:30am-10am or can make other arrangements with Mandi Bartley or Trixy P Gardner at fundraisegmspto@gmail.com.

Students may bring supplies labeled “SUPPLY DRIVE” to place in one of our collection boxes at school. The items on the wishlist are items teachers often have to purchase on their own. To make shopping easier for the items you have signed up for, an Amazon Wish List has been created. Items will be mailed directly to one of our collection bins. *Items do not need to be purchased using this Amazon List. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d49a4a829abface9-youare

Now is a GREAT time to link your Amazon account to Griffin Memorial Parent Teacher Organization through AMAZONSmile. This is a simple way for you to support the GMS PTO every time you shop, at NO cost to you! Shop your favorite deals at smile.amazon.com or with AmazonSmile ON in the app to generate a donation to the GMS PTO just by shopping. Visit our GMS PTO Facebook Page to watch a "How to Video! "

4th Grade BABY ADS!!

It is a GMS tradition to feature the "Baby Ads" in the 4th grade yearbook! Please use this form to submit a "baby ad" for your 4th grader! Choose a photo,  leave a brief message (we cap the number of characters for space) and your little cutie will be featured in the yearbook. REMEMBER, we will never share these online. ADDITIONALLY, if you have not signed your consent on Powerschool for your child to be featured in this year's yearbook, that must happen for us to feature your child! "Baby ads" are FREE and they are OPTIONAL, the kids love to read these sweet messages from parents! If you want to leave a message only, and no picture, please fill out the form and we will feature your message.

End 68 Hours of Hunger

End 68 Hours of Hunger and Litchfield Schools are pleased to inform you about a free, confidential food program which provides students with meals from Friday after school until they return to school on Monday morning.  If meeting the weekend nutritional needs of your child is challenging at this time, we would like to help meet that need.  All food is non-perishable and easy to prepare.  If your child has any food allergies, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate this need.  Nut products are included for those who are not allergic, but children are informed that they are not to open the bags until a parent can review the contents.  The bags are delivered to schools and students will take the bags home with them on the bus or at parent pick-up.  If you would like to pick up the bags yourself, arrangements can be made for pick up at the front office.

If you are interested in joining the program or learning more, please contact Elin Pelland, School Social Worker, at 424-2133 x 2215 or at epelland@litchfieldsd.org.

Absence Reporting Email

The GMS office now has a dedicated email address to use to report your child tardy or absent:  GMSabsences@litchfieldsd.org. You can also find it on the Griffin Memorial School homepage, on the top, left side under “ABSENCES”.

When you send an email please include the following information:

                *Child’s first and last name

                *Teacher

                *Reason for absence

If you would prefer to leave a voicemail message when your child is absent or tardy you are still welcome to call 424-5931 and then hit “2” when you hear the automated message. Please remember to include the above information in the voice message.

Please note that when you email or leave a voice message saying that your child “will be out” then the absence is recorded as unexcused. Please tell us the reason for the absence so it is documented correctly.
